World Environment Day was observed at our school on June 5, 2015 with a day-long celebration by students and staff. This year’s theme for the celebration was “Seven Billion Dreams, One Planet, Consume with Care”. Dr. K.S. Lokesh, HOD of Environmental Engineering, SJCE Mysuru, presented a talk and power point presentation based on this theme to students of eighth, ninth, tenth and twelfth standards.
The morning function included special guests, Dr. Madhumati, Professor of Ayurveda, Govt. Ayurveda Medical College, Mysuru and Dr. N.N. Prahallad, retired Professor from the Regional Institute of Education, Mysuru. They kick-started the planting to be done in honour of WED by students and teachers over the following weeks, by planting beautiful flowering plants.
Dr. Madhumati stressed the importance of the consumption of the right foods in the right quantity at the right time. She also warned students about the ill effects of junk food. Dr. Prahallad made a call for environmental education to become part of the curriculum. He also made a special request to students not to use plastic bags.
