ONAM CELEBRATION AT AV MYSURU

Onam is a harvest festival that is celebrated majorly in the state of Kerala with great zeal and enthusiasm. It is one of the most awaited and biggest festivals that symbolizes the annual home coming of the demon king Mahabali. The festival falls in the month of Chingam (mid-August to mid-September) according to the Malayalam calendar. It also marks the beginning of the Malayalam year, called Kolla Varsham. This 10-day long festival with each day holding much significance, brings in the best of festive spirit among the people. The first day is called Atham, followed by Chithira, Chothi, Vishakam, Anizham, Thriketta, Moolam, Pooradam, Uthradom and Thiruvonam. Thiruvonam is the last day, and is considered to be the most auspicious.

This year, the Onam festival started from 30th August and ended on 8th September, 2022. It was celebrated by all the teachers and staff at Amrita Vidyalayam Mysuru.
