AMRITAVARSHAM 69

Our beloved Amma’s 69th birthday was celebrated on 27th September 2022 at Amrita Vidyalayam Mysuru. The program began with the lighting of the lamp followed by Amma’s paduka puja while the guru stotram was being chanted. Amma’s ashtotharam chanting was done by offering flower petals at her divine lotus feet. The Lalitha Sahasranama and Trishathi were also chanted by all the teachers. The program ended with Aarti and Shanti Mantra after which prasad was distributed to all. They offered prayers and flowers with utmost devotion towards Amma. Amma’s charitable work – providing food, shelter, medical care, education, etc. for the poor and downtrodden – is an example of selfless service, par excellence.

AMMA’S MESSAGE AT AMRITAVARSHAM 69

Amma said that if we find happiness in others’ happiness and are sad in their sorrows, then we have found love.

“Take a seed and put it in some soil with some manure and wrap it up in a piece of paper. Drop those seed balls in a place where they can sprout, either around your house or in some wooded area. The more saplings you can plant, the better. This would be the greatest gift you can give to Amma,” she said. In this way, hundreds of trees and plants would be sown every day, restoring balance to ecosystems on a global scale.

Amma also suggested that everyone clean one kilometre of public space on their birthday: “Sweep the area and clear away all the garbage. Amma’s ashram children can teach you about waste management so you will understand what to do with the waste.”
