DASARA FESTIVAL 2022-23

In Mysuru, Dasara marks the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon, Mahishasur. Thus, this festival is celebrated to honour the Goddess in her warrior form. The idol of Chamundeshwari is worshipped in the Mysore Palace by the royal couple before the Jambu Savari. Mysore Dasara is the Nada habba or state festival of Karnataka. Often called Navaratri, it is a 10-day festival with the last day being Vijayadashami. According to a legend, Vijayadashami denotes the victory of truth over evil, for it was on this day that the Hindu Goddess Chamundeshwari killed the demon Mahishasura.

Dasara festival was celebrated at Amrita Vidyalayam Mysuru for ten days. Pooja was solely dedicated to Durga Mata and her nine avatars. We worshipped Durga Mata by chanting Lalitha Trishathi, Devi Kavacha, Durga Ashtothra, Argala Ashtothra and Soundarya Lahari for all the ten days.
